dialects of italy: languages of the heart

On Friday 2 February, Com.It.Es. NSW in conjunction with the Consolato Generale d'Italia - Sydney and Istituto Italiano di Cultura Sydney hosted an enthralling and interesting evening presenting on ‘Dialects of Italy: Languages of the heart’ in honour of ‘Giornata nazionale del dialetto e delle lingue locali/National Day of Dialect and of Local Languages’.

A/Prof Antonia Rubino outlined some very interesting facts and history of Italian dialects and the changes to the treatment of dialects and what that means moving forward. We thank A/Prof Rubino for her insightful presentation.

We were then captivated by the performance of poems and songs by Dott Emilio Lomonaco. We thank you, Dott Lomonaco for your wonderful performances.

Dr Gianluca Rubagotti, Consol General of Italy, Dr Paolo Barlera from the Italian Cultural Institure and Dr Luigi Di Luigi Di Martino, ComItEs NSW also spoke about the history and the value of dialects.
