Discover Italy’s first literary text through song, history and an Italian-style aperitif!
To celebrate the 800th anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi's Canticle of the Sun and the 25th Week of the Italian Language in the World, Italofonia: Italian Beyond Borders, the Dante Alighieri Society of Sydney are inviting you to a special cultural evening to celebrate the Italian language, music and culture.
We will be revisiting the first literary text ever written in Italian: a prayer poem that still speaks to us with clarity and force, celebrating gratitude, nature and the human spirit. Words and music will come together as the choir of St Francis of Assisi in Paddington fills the church with song.
Dr Daniel Canaris of the University of Sydney will explore the extraordinary history of the Canticle and the reasons why its message remains so urgent today.
The evening will conclude with an Italian-style aperitif shared among friends, students and guests.
